Qualifying Work Experience

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has set specific criteria for work experience under the pilot programs:

1. You must accumulate at least 24 months of full-time work within the 36 months preceding your pilot program application.
2. Your work experience should fall within National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes 4411 or 4412.
3. Your work experience must align with one of these specific job categories; you cannot combine both.
4. You must demonstrate that your job duties closely match the NOC job description, and you have performed the primary duties.
5. The 24 months of work experience do not have to be consecutive; they can be accumulated over time.
6. Full-time work is defined as a minimum of 30 hours of paid work each week.

Caregivers with work experience in NOC 4411 (excluding foster parents) may qualify for permanent residence via the Home Child Care Provider Pilot. This includes caring for children under 18, either in your home or your employer’s home, and there is no requirement to live with your employer. Experience as a foster parent is not considered.

Caregivers with work experience in NOC 4412 (excluding housekeepers) may be eligible for permanent residence through the Home Support Worker Pilot. This involves taking care of someone in need of home support, either in your home or your employer’s home, with no requirement to reside with your employer. Only home support workers fall under NOC 4412, and experience as a housekeeper is not counted.

Language Proficiency

You must undergo an IRCC-designated English or French language test and achieve a minimum of CLB or NCLC 5 in all four language skills, including writing, reading, listening, and speaking.

Educational Requirement

You must have completed a post-secondary educational credential of at least one year, whether in Canada or abroad. If your education is from a foreign institution, you must obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).

Admissibility Checks

IRCC conducts admissibility assessments on permanent residence applicants to ensure they do not pose a risk to the health and safety of Canadians. The specific documents required for each applicant vary based on their background. IRCC provides detailed information in its application guide, which may include:

• Police clearance certificate
