Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for the AIP To qualify for the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP), you need to meet specific requirements unless you are an international student who has graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada. The key eligibility criteria include:

Work Experience: You must have relevant work experience, except for international students who have graduated from recognized post-secondary institutions in Atlantic Canada.

Educational Criteria: Meeting the educational requirements is crucial.

Language Proficiency: Adequate language skills are necessary.

Settlement Funds: You should demonstrate sufficient settlement funds unless you are already living and working in Canada with a valid work permit.

For job seekers, you can begin searching for a position with a designated employer in Atlantic Canada if you meet the above criteria. Work experience requirements include having worked at least 1,560 hours in the past five years, with specific guidelines:

  1. Count both full-time and part-time paid work hours.
  2. Exclude volunteer or unpaid hours.
  3. Do not include self-employed work hours.
  4. Include hours worked in Canada or abroad while legally authorized to work in Canada as a temporary resident.
  5. Accumulate hours over a period of at least 12 months.
  6. You can count work experience obtained during your studies as long as it complies with your study permit conditions.
  7. The work experience should align with a National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level of 0, A, B, or C and encompass the actions and primary duties described in your NOC.

International graduates who completed their studies in Canada may not need to fulfill work experience requirements if they meet specific conditions related to their degree or diploma, full-time student status, the necessary visa or permit, and residency in an Atlantic province.

Educational requirements depend on the NOC skill level of your job offer:

  • NOC 0 or A job offers require at least a one-year post-secondary credential, or its equivalent outside of Canada.
  • NOC B or C job offers necessitate a Canadian high school diploma, or its equivalent outside of Canada.
  • If you studied outside Canada, you must obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) confirming the equivalence of your studies to Canadian educational standards required for your job offer. The ECA report should be less than 5 years old when IRCC receives your application.

Language requirements vary based on the NOC level of your job offer:

  • NOC 0, A, and B job offers mandate a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) level of 5.
  • NOC C job offers require a CLB or NCLC level of 4.

You must provide IRCC with recent test results from a designated language testing organization, with the results being less than 2 years old at the time of application.
